Penilla is a monster encountered in the Dark Ruins, first revealed in the FIGHT demonstration video. She was conceptualized by NoteBlock, a composer for Undertale Yellow.

Profile

Appearance

Penilla is a small monster with a physical appearance similar to a young dinosaur. She also has a few characteristics similar to a pencil, such as the pencil tip at the back of her head and the eraser at the end of her tail. Penilla is also seen carrying a large pencil, which she attacks with.

Personality

Penilla is an artist who does not get along much with the other monsters besides Sweet Corn. She spends a lot of time on her work, supposing that she needs a break.

Main Story

Penilla's scripted encounter is in the second save room of the Dark Ruins.

Pacifist Route

After sparing Dalv, she appears in the hallway to the south of his house. She's happy about no longer having to hide from Dalv and him hanging her painting on his wall, and talks about how she considers Dalv a friend.

After getting the ability to Fast Travel, she appears next to the pond with a hole in Snowdin, where she talks about her future drawing endeavors, and how she might try ice sculpting. She mentions a monster highly proficient in ice magic roaming at higher elevations to the south, which she could ask to teach her sculpting. This might be referring to Lesser Dog from Undertale, who spends its time around the sentry point by making sculptures.

In the True Pacifist ending credits, she can be seen in the crowd watching Dalv's organ concert at the Honeydew Resort.

• The "pen" part of Penilla's name is a pun on the fact that she is an artist. The "nilla" part may originate from "Godzilla," a fictional reptilian kaiju that Penilla slightly resembles.
  • The flavor text "Penilla draws near" is a pun on Penilla's pencil-like appearance.
• Penilla had an encounter with Crispy Scroll in the Undertale Yellow demo, but it goes unused in the final game.
