Snowdin is a location that returns from Undertale in Undertale Yellow. Like in Undertale, it is a large forest covered in snow, located right after the Ruins – though it also has another entrance to the Dark Ruins as well. A trailer showcasing some of the new content in Snowdin was released in 2018.

Debug code refers to this area as "Lower Snowdin", suggesting this is below the typical route through Snowdin taken in Undertale.

Features[edit | edit source]

As the player traverses Snowdin, they will encounter many monsters:

  • Frostermit, a hermit crab-looking monster with an igloo on its back.
  • Insomnitot, a tired snail-looking monster wearing a nightcap.
  • Know Cone, an icecream-looking monster with a sphere floating above its head.
  • Trihecta, three small and nearly idenical monsters stacked on top of each other.

There are also many NPCs that can be found around Snowdin:

  • A spoon-shaped monster wearing a santa hat. They inform the player that you can slow down in battles with the "x" key.
  • An octopus-like monster that talks about the nearby bridge when interacted with.
  • Mail Whale, a pink whale-looking monster who will deliver letters for you at any UGPS station.
  • Martlet, a blue birdlike monster who is a member of the royal guard.
  • Mo, a raccoon-looking monster wearing a suit, tie, hat and sunglasses. Being a salesman, he stops the player in an attempt to sell them his wares. At his Snowdin stand, he sells the Hot Pop, the Lukewarm Pop, and the Cold Pop, each one costing 15G.
  • Slurpy, a white rabbit-looking monster who has a big tongue and wears a blue snowsuit. Slurpy is initially stuck to the pole when the player first finds him. If the player frees him from the pole, Slurpy rewards the player with the Silver Scarf.
  • The Shufflers, three cups who force the player to win their game in order to proceed.
  • Two hooded NPCs standing around a heat source. They are lost and can be given a map, which is a requirement for eventually freeing Slurpy.

Main Story[edit | edit source]

History[edit | edit source]

As found out through Chujin's VHS tapes, before the events of Undertale Yellow, an incident which Chujin refers to as the Snowdin attack with the blue SOUL human attacking a monster had taken place in Snowdin.[1][2] Chujin's daughter, Kanako, had been playing with that monster, which lead Chujin to worry about what could have happened if the human attacked Kanako.[3]

Pillars in Dark Ruins depicting events of the attack.

It is hinted throughout the game that the Snowdin resident that the human attacked was Dalv:

  • On different Fun Values, the pillars in the Pillar Room of Dark Ruins show four different drawings: a hooded figure looking like Dalv, a robot looking like Axis, what appears to be a human whose head was blasted off, and a SOUL.
  • In Kanako's room at the Ketsukane Mansion, a drawing of Dalv can be seen.
  • Dalv mentions how someone used to place corn on his doorstep daily,[4] and Ceroba mentions how Starlo's family used to give Chujin baskets full of corn.[5]

This event is what likely lead to Dalv to close himself off in the Dark Ruins.

Neutral Route[edit | edit source]

After exiting the Dark Ruins, Clover meets Flowey under a giant rock with a Delta Rune carved on it.

Pacifist Route[edit | edit source]

In a Pacifist Route, Clover can convince Dalv to leave the Dark Ruins and move to Snowdin. After reaching the Sunnyside Farm, Dalv writes Clover a letter how he moved to Snowdin alongside other Dark Ruins monsters and invites them to visit.

Genocide Route[edit | edit source]

After exiting the Dark Ruins on a Genocide Route, Flowey says that what Clover did in the Ruins is as good as sealed, as no one visits there.

Puzzles[edit | edit source]

Snowdin location puzzle.png

One of the first puzzles the player encounters involves a lava rock rolling down a trail. The goal of the puzzle is to allow the rock to melt the ice cube. The player needs to use the movement keys to move the bars in front of the rock, or else it will break upon contact. The ice cube needs to melt two times to completely fill a water tube and unlock a gate.

Honeydew Resort[edit | edit source]

Honeydew Resort shopkeeper.

The Honeydew Resort is a resort owned by the family of the Honeydew Shopkeeper. Items that are availible to buy at the resort are the Honeydew Coffee for 16g G, the Honeydew Pancake for 18 G, the G.B. Bear for 22 G, and the Honeydew Pin for 30 G. The player can also recieve the Band Merch Pin item by getting the band to play "Honeydew Bark," then talking to the superfan NPC.

Secret Spa[edit | edit source]

The Secret Spa is a hidden location that can be found behind the Honeydew Resort. To access it, exit the resort from the back door and keep going straight upwards into the forest. The Secret Spa contains Micro Froggits bathing in the spa as well as the Golden Coffee item.

Secret Area[edit | edit source]

Depending on the Players Fun Value, one might encounter a secret area when exiting the room with the Ice Pellets. The player can encounter two different characters in this room, those being Jane or Wanda.
