Hotland is a returning area from Undertale, reachable after defeating Axis on a Pacifist/Neutral Route or after obliterating him on a Genocide Route. It is the second to last area on a Pacifist/Genocide Route, and the last area on a Neutral Route.

The area remains as mostly the same from Undertale, but only one level is available, and since it takes place before the changes made by Mettaton and Alphys, the puzzles and Mettaton branding are noticeably absent throughout the area.

Main Story[edit | edit source]

Pacifist Route[edit | edit source]

Clover reaches Hotland after exploring the Ketsukane Mansion with Martlet. Different from Frisk from Undertale, the area is fairly small, with only level being accessible. Eventually they go to the rooftop, meeting with Martlet as planned. She expresses her admiration for Clover for always doing the right thing, and partners up with them to stop Ceroba. They eventually leave to New Home to end Ceroba plan for good.

Neutral Route[edit | edit source]

Clover reaches Hotland after sparing/destroying Axis. Most of interactions that happen in the Pacifist Route, but when Clover goes to the alley to reach the rooftop, Flowey appears, saying that Clover is going the wrong way and asking them to turn back. When they refuse, Flowey then says Martlet's letter in the Steamworks is most likely a trap and that she never got them anywhere. After Clover ignores them again, Flowey gives up and lets them meet Martlet. She then speaks to Clover, being more optimist and trusting the lower Clover's LOVE is and more nervous and suspicious the higher Clover LOVE's is. However, no matter what Clover did, she says that Clover can't defeat Asgore and proposes for them to live with her in Snowdin. Clover can them accept or be silent, also depending in how many LOVE they have. No matter the response, Martlet then prepares to bring Clover with them before being impaled by a vine sent by Flowey. She assumes it was Clover's doing and be either confused why they did it or bitter because she should have know, before dying. Flowey then appears, snapping at Clover for abandoning their goal and mocking them for what Martlet thought was the attacker. Clover then tries to attack Flowey, but he loads his SAVE to stop them. He mocks them one final time before creating a ring of friendliness pellets which destroys Clover physical body and absorbs his SOUL with vine. His battle then happens in his mind.

Genocide Route[edit | edit source]

Clover reaches Hotland after obliterating Axis. The whole area was evacuated, leaving it to them. They eventually go to the rooftop, where Martlet is. After a short talk, Clover raises their gun against her, which then reveals that her whole life she was told the humans were the enemy, and how she ignored it. She reinforces how there's no excuse for their sins and how she ran away twice, leading to so many deaths. She ends her speech by saying she's way too limited in her current state and that Clover should have finished her when she had the chance, before injecting herself with a syringe with a special liquid (most likely Determination) and beginning a two phase fight against Clover. Clover eventually fatally wounds her, not before she says Clover's actions are far from just. She then starts to melt and eventually dies, leveling up Clover to LV 20, the maximum. Flowey then appears, berating them from their recklessness and that the Underground is now most likely at lockdown, and ordering Clover to go to the Castle, accidentally revealing his true colors - stealing the souls for himself. Clover then dismisses any chance for Flowey to fight back or escape, leading him to a breakdown in how much he hates them. Clover finally kills him, becoming the most determined being in the Underground and being able to save. The fight heavily damaged the rooftop and the UG Apartments power gone out, with the exception of the elevator to New Home now becoming accessible, leaving Clover to take it to finally confront Asgore.
