Asgore Dreemurr is a returning character from Undertale. He is the king of monsterkind and the monster who Clover is trying to reach for much of their journey. He serves as the unbeatable final boss of the Flawed Pacifist Route.

Profile[edit | edit source]

Appearance[edit | edit source]

Asgore's appearance in Undertale Yellow is seemingly unchanged from that of Undertale.

Personality[edit | edit source]

In Undertale, Asgore is friendly and loved by his kingdom. He fulfills his duty to take seven human SOULs with remorse. He intends to declare war on humanity once the Barrier is broken, but has not made a plan for how to actually win the war, instead waiting and hoping that another human will not fall.

In Undertale Yellow, as compared to Undertale, Asgore is noticeably more grim about monsterkind's entrapment. He takes fighting Clover more seriously than his fight with Undertale's protagonist.

When learning Chujin Ketsukane's story, we see a side of Asgore that is colder. Although he gave Chujin many chances, when Axis starts a fire in his garden (where Asriel died), Asgore refuses to see another of his demonstrations and says Chujin will not be able to help monsterkind.

Main Story[edit | edit source]

Asgore as seen in the game's intro cutscene.

Asgore plays quite a few roles in the story of Undertale Yellow. He's the catalyst for Chujin's descent into his work, the one who enabled the murder of the five humans before Clover, and is a looming threat that Flowey regularly reminds Clover of. However, Asgore will only have a major role should the player choose to kill Ceroba at the end of the Pacifist Route, though he briefly appears in the Genocide Route.

Flawed Pacifist[edit | edit source]

If the player chooses to kill Ceroba, Clover and Martlet will continue to the castle. He will be initially happy to meet Martlet. He brushes off her formalities and asks what brings her to the castle. Martlet then shows Clover. Asgore reacts in a saddened surprised way. He is disappointed that Martlet brang them to the castle instead of taking their SOUL. Martlet tries to convince Asgore that Clover deserves to go home, but Asgore regretfully tells her that he will have to kill Clover. Martlet tries to insist, but Clover asks her to leave, with Asgore seconding them, and she eventually leaves Clover and Asgore to their business. Asgore comments on Clover’s decisiveness and asks them to follow him to the Barrier.

When they reach it, Asgore briefly explains what the barrier is and then reveals the 5 human souls contained in vials. Clover briefly looks at them and trembles before they aim their gun at Asgore. Asgore will lament one final time how grim the situation is before a fight that can't be won initiates. Upon Clover's defeat, we can see their SOUL being contained together with the others and the last words they hear from Asgore: "Rest well, young one." "I am sorry."

Genocide Route[edit | edit source]

Clover confronts Asgore in the throne room. He expresses sadness for the monsters Clover has killed. He then says to Clover that their goal is out of reach, and that regretfully, their actions have ensured that many more humans and monsters will die in the future. He attempts to kill Clover to take their soul, in full confidence that Clover will lose and monsters will rebuild, but his trident is shattered by hitting Clover's soul. Clover then vaporizes him with their SOUL's laser beam ability.

They absorb Asgore's SOUL to cross the Barrier and release the 5 human SOULs. They are seen walking through the barrier as the 5 human SOULs float around them, before the credits roll.

In Battle[edit | edit source]

Attacks[edit | edit source]

Asgore will only battle you in Flawed Pacifist. His attacks are mostly repeats of that found in his Undertale counterpart, though they come endlessly rather than in turns. A new, unavoidable attack is used during this fight: a ring of flames that slowly moves into the center of the bullet board.

Strategy[edit | edit source]

Unlike his battle in Undertale, the player will have no chance of fighting back, as Asgore's turn will not end. For the first 40 seconds, although Clover can be hit, they will not take damage. Past this point, each hit will reduce their SOUL speed; they can take four hits before the fight ends and Asgore takes their soul.
