Flier is a monster encountered in the Dark Ruins, and the second enemy encounter in the game.

Profile

Appearance

Flier is a small humanoid creature with tiny wings and antennae, three circles in his belly, and large eyes. He maintains a neutral expression.

Personality

Flier is a depressing, middle-aged monster caught in a midlife crisis, who, in an attempt to be "hip," pretends to be someone he is not. Later on in his fight, he admits that what he was saying was not really him.

Main Story

Flier's scripted encounter is in the first puzzle of the Dark Ruins.

Pacifist Route

After sparing Dalv, a Flier can be found in the room after the dark cave, next to Decibat. He talks about buying a beach house outside the Ruins and learning hip dance moves, showing that he isn't trying to be himself quite yet.

After getting the ability to Fast Travel the same Flier can be found next to the Ruined Shack in Snowdin, alongside Dalv. He talks about how other monsters all quickly left the Dark Ruins as soon as the door opened, and that he helped Dalv move out by himself. His beach house appears to have been too expensive for him, and his stocks on the stock market appear to be in a rapid decline.

During the True Pacifist ending credits, he is seen flying above the stage in Honeydew Resort during Dalv's organ concert, with a smile on his face.

Trivia

• It is likely that Flier's name not only comes from the fact that he can fly, but that he is trying to be "fly," which is another word for "hip." It may also come from "liar," as Flier pretends to be someone that he’s not.
• While the triple Flier encounter was in the demo, the developers meant to remove it from the final game. However, it was accidentally left in the room before the dark cave, they found about it shortly before release and decided to keep it.^{[citation needed]}
