The Pickaxe is a miscellaneous item found in the East Mines, whose only purpose is to fix the elevator to the next floor. It can be obtained from the Quiz Miner by solving a monster trivia game, or by buying it from the Green Slime Miner for 30G. Using the Pickaxe breaks the piece of wood jamming the elevator doors, after which the Pickaxe breaks as well. In the Genocide Route, the Pickaxe simply appears on the floor of the room where the two miners were.

There are two more ways to progress if Clover does not win the trivia game and does not have 30G to buy the pickaxe:

• If they have the Flint and the Steel Buckle in their inventory at the same time, they can select either item to burn the piece of wood.
• If they have the Matches from the Slurpy sidequest, it can also be used to burn the wood.

Progressing this way destroys any used items.

Trivia

• It is possible to obtain two Pickaxes by completing the monster trivia game, putting it in the Dimensional Box, and then buying the second Pickaxe.
• In the Mines gameplay trailer from 2021, the pickaxe cost 100G instead of 30G. This was most likely rebalanced as a result of bad game economy early in development.
