Undertale Yellow Demo
The Undertale Yellow Demo was released on November 30th, 2016. It can be downloaded from IndieDB.
The Undertale Yellow Demo contains a much shorter experience than Undertale Yellow's final game. It starts the game at Clover entering the Ruins and ends at the door to Snowdin. While the story is the same, the demo is coded completely differently than the final game and has many noticable gameplay changes.
Differences[edit | edit source]
General[edit | edit source]
- The game ends with a unique credits sequence to the track To Be Continued, which does not appear in the final game.
- Textboxes are drawn slightly differently, with less space between text and the border, as well as more space between lines.
- Items do not have text for using them or picking them up. However, every item has text for if Clover does not pick it up, some of which is not in the final game.
- Choicers do not have the SOUL icon by them.
- Many sprites, notably the overworld sprites of most monsters and the introduction cutscene sepia images, are different, as they were remade in the final game.
- Toriel's text after Clover falls into the Dark Ruins, Flowey's combat tutorial dialogue, and Dalv's killed dialogue cannot be skipped through by pressing [CANCEL].
- The start menu does not have a graphic.
- The game window is not 640x480.[citation needed]
- Many small parts of the game, such as dialogue and bullet pattern physics, are slightly altered.
- The track "Enemy Retreating" is different from the OST version, as it is missing pitch bends on some notes.
Overworld[edit | edit source]
- Clover cannot run.
- The area in the menu where the Mail option is in the final game is blank.
- Toriel's dialogue is very different overall. It is somewhat less formal.
- Toriel will not throw down a rope in the first room of the Dark Ruins.
- Flowey's introduction does not change across RESETs.
- Dalv's monologues do not reference the Snowdin attack and there is no Fun Value pillar art depicting the attack.
- This is because the story around him had not been planned yet.[1]
- Dalv does not have a diary and the Organ Demo does not bug when stopped.
- Dalv's diary was added in the final game, because there would otherwise be no reason for Dalv to prevent Clover from entering his room.[2]
- Dalv's unused damage exit variant works correctly.
Encounters[edit | edit source]
- The Patch does not exist. Clover has no starting accessory.
- Fleeing from encounters is not guaranteed like it is with the Patch and every successful flee increases the encounter rate.
- Along with being scared off by Toriel, Froggit can be killed or fled from.
- Encounters do not have low HP variants.
- Many battles have text that is not present in the final game.
- If the Feather is equipped, Rorrim has an alternate sparing method where Clover can Critique once and Rorrim immediately becomes sparable.
- Rorrim's Critique act does not turn yellow after selecting Smile.
- Flowey does not have game over text for Decibat, but he does have text for dying to Micro Froggit, most of which goes unused due to a bug.
- Crispy Scroll has less animation in battle.
- A triple Flier encounter and duo Penilla and Crispy Scroll encounter can be found throughout the whole Dark Ruins after reaching their respective areas.
- Clover does not gain a shadow over their eyes when the kill count is exhausted.
- Dalv does not have a custom battle background and his monologue when killed is much longer.
Unused[edit | edit source]
- Dialogue is present in the files for unused battles against Cactony and an enemy called the messenger.
- Cactony was the first enemy created for the game.[3]
- Some debug content is left in the game that is much different than the final's game debug content. The demo contains a battle testing room and some leftover deleted debug mode information.
