For her final boss battle in the Genocide Route, see Zenith Martlet.

Martlet serves as the boss of Snowdin in all three routes, as well as the final boss of the Genocide Route as Zenith Martlet.

Attacks[edit | edit source]

Neutral/Pacifist Route[edit | edit source]

Martlet lets Clover have the first turn, waiting for several turns if they choose not to attack first. After this, she repeats the following attacks in order:

  1. Feather Fall: Feathers fall from the bullet board, targeting the SOUL at some point during the fall.
  2. Package: Packages are thrown from the left or right of the board. After they hit the ground, they break and release several random items.
  3. Feather Circle: Feathers circle the SOUL, targeting it one after each other.
  4. Feather Spiral: Exclamation marks appear on the Bullet Board, and then feathers move through these parts of the board in a spiral pattern.
  5. Feather Flow: Feathers enter the Bullet Board from various sides, moving from one side to another.
  6. Wing Gust: A carousel of feathers circles the Bullet Board, similar to Jevil's Phase 2, Turn 1 attack.
  7. Tornado: Random items start falling from the top of the Bullet Board, with some bouncing off the bottom.

Genocide Route[edit | edit source]

During the first three turns, Martlet does not attack. After these, she uses harder versions of her Neutral/Pacifist attacks, as well as an extra attack, in this order:

  1. Feather Fall: Feathers fall from the bullet board, targeting the SOUL at some point during the fall, when they reach the target they spit into 4 smaller feathers.
  2. Package: Packages are thrown from the left or right of the board faster than normal. After they hit the ground, they break and release several bigger random items.
  3. Feather Circle: Feathers circle the SOUL, targeting it in random order and splitting into 4 projectiles when reaching the target.
  4. Feather Flow: Feathers enter the Bullet Board from various sides, moving from one side to another, when reaching a certain point they will explode into 3 smaller feathers.
  5. Feather Spiral: Exclamation marks appear on the Bullet Board, and then bigger feathers move through these parts of the board in a spiral pattern spawning much faster.
  6. Tornado: More random items start falling faster from the top of the Bullet Board, with some bouncing off the bottom.
  7. Feather Barrage: Feathers generate in circles around the the Bullet Board then fire inward, then three feathers fly inward to the center, then outward while spinning, then targets that target the player will appear and create four feathers, one per direction, from the center out.
  8. Wing Gust: A carousel of feathers circles the Bullet Board.

Strategy[edit | edit source]

Neutral/Pacifist Route[edit | edit source]

If the player has obtained the Silver Scarf accessory, this fight will become a cakewalk as she will only deal 2 damage per hit and it heals 2 HP every turn.

If you do not wish to do the lengthy side-quest of getting the Silver Scarf, you can alternatively obtain the Band Merch Pin and stock up on G.B Bears or whatever healing items you desire.

Martlet's battle can end by either

  • hitting her until her HP is below 50%,
  • not hitting her and using Insult 3 times at the end, or
  • switching between hitting and not hitting until Martlet is confused. This is the fastest way to spare Martlet.

Ending the battle with not hitting or confusion results in the same outcome, with Martlet leading Clover to UG Aviator. Ending the battle by attacking leads to Martlet flying away. Causing Clover to ride the UG Aviator alone.

Genocide Route[edit | edit source]

This will be the first true new fight on the Genocide Route.

For your accessory, you can obtain the Silver Scarf on the Genocide run by sparing Dalv, freeing Slurpy, and then exhausting Snowdin's kill counter to continue the Genocide Route. If you had already killed Dalv but have yet to exhaust the kill counter, you can alternatively obtain the Band Merch Pin. If Dalv was not spared and the kill counter was exhausted before reaching the Honeydew Resort, the Honeydew Pin will be your best option.

For your ammo, Ice Pellets deal the most amount of damage against Martlet. Alternatively, Coffee Bean Ammo gives you a speed boost for a perfect shot in exchange for less damage.

Martlet's first battle ends regularly after her HP reaches a point where the next attack would deal a fatal blow, and she flees from the battle. The game only checks this after attacking, which means that by switching to a stronger weapon Clover can deplete her HP.[1] This triggers some usually unused dialogue, and the game crashes due to trying to display six dialogue boxes when there are only five.[2]

    • I mean, I want you to get to hit me, I really do!
    • But I think this is starting to break protocol, and, well...
    • I'm on thin ice as it is with that, ya know?
    • ...
    • Okay, one more shot! But make it count!
  • [Miss #4 after intro]
    • Alright, intruder!
    • Prepare for the Royal Guard Gauntlet!
  • [Dialogue continues to Not Hitting Turn #6]

Hitting[edit | edit source]

    • There you go! Just like that!
    • ...
    • Oh, it's my turn! Sorry!
    • See, the guidebook didn't say it would hurt really...
    • Well, whatever, back to protocol! Now it's my turn!
  • Okay, finally, now for protocol two: attack back! [After turn above]
  • Good, now for protocol two: attack back! [Hit #1 without having not hit]
  • It is time to show you the true strength of a Royal Guard! [After either above dialogue]
  • [Hit #2]
    • Ow! That kinda hurt...
  • [Hit #3]
    • Uh-I'm sorry, it's just, see, my guidebook...
    • It didn't really say being attacked would hurt this much...
    • I guess it makes sense, but still...
    • ...ow...
  • [Hit #4]
    • Ow!!
  • [Hit #5]
    • Does it hurt this much when I attack you?
    • 'Cause I'm scared I'm gonna break a wing here!
    • I don't want you to feel like this!
    • I wouldn't want anyone to feel like this!
    • ...For the Royal Guard I guess...
  • [Hit #6]
    • Ow!!!
  • [Hit #7]
    • Okay, okay, ow, this cannot be right!
    • I mean - OW - I'm gonna be all black and blue tomorrow!
    • It hurts you too, right?
    • Like, it's impressive you don't show it, but...
    • Ow!
  • [Hit #8]
    • Alright, uhhh...
    • Martlet of the Underground Royal Guard is hereby retreating.
    • I mean, there's gotta be a better way, right?
    • I'll uhhh... I'll come up with something!
    • I'll find you again, small human!
    • With a new and improved plan of action!
  • [Not hitting after hit #1]
    • ...?
  • [Not hitting after hit #2]
    • ???
  • [Continuing to not hit moves dialogue to Not Hitting Turn #5]

Not Hitting[edit | edit source]

  • [Turn #1]
    • Umm... I don't think I'm supposed to be helping you, but... that was supposed to be your turn...
    • It's okay, I space out and miss stuff like that all the time! I'll let you go again!
  • [Turn #2]
    • Uh... I - h-hold on, I have the guide book on me.
    • I'll check what to do when someone doesn't actually attack.
    • You can just... uhhhh...
    • Take another turn! Go for it! Hit me as hard as you can!
  • [Turn #3]
    • Uh-okay, I'm really sorry for the wait. I'm looking.
    • I'm not the best Royal Guard ya know, but I'm really trying to be better!
    • Last week I apprehended this girl:
    • Total human!
    • Oh, I think it's your turn.
  • [Turn #4]
    • Aha! Royal Guards are to proceed to the next step without hesitation!
    • Oh... does that count as hesitation?
    • What? Protocol two! My attack!
    • [Martlet begins attacking]
  • [Turn #5 or immediately hit at least once then not hit thrice]
    • That was only a warmup.
    • Prepare for the Royal Guard Gauntlet!
  • [Turn #6 or not hitting after Miss #4]
    • Hi-YA!
  • [Turn #7]
    • Take this, intruder!
  • [Turn #8]
    • Phew!
    • This is a real workout.
    • Keep it up, Martlet!
  • [Turn #9]
    • ...?
  • [After Turn #9]
    • Umm... Hold on, I'm checking this one more time.
    • That can't be right! You're not fighting back!
    • I don't want to hurt you! You're all cute and stuff!
    • You go on and have your turn, I'm gonna check that handbook again.
  • [Turn #10]
    • See, when I apprehended that girl, I didn't have this problem.
    • Well... I guess she didn't attack me per se...
    • But she scolded me and got real aggressive, like:
    • "What are you on about?! I'm not human! Clear the feathers out of your head!"
    • Would you mind being aggressive like her?

Insulting[edit | edit source]

  • [Not Insulting when asked to insult]
    • Come on! Get aggressive!
    • I can take it, I swear!
    • Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words can only make me sad!
  • [Insult #1]
    • Aww! That was adorable!
    • I don't even feel insulted!
    • I feel like I've been honored! You put so much work into that!
    • You aren't making this easy here!
    • Here I go... protocol and all that... for the Royal Guard!
  • [Not Insulting after Insult #1]
    • Give it another try!
    • I believe in you!
  • [Insult #2]
    • That's more like it!
    • What kind of Royal Guard wears rags like these, right?
    • It's not like I stayed up all night sewing them or anything, haha...
    • Oh, right, it's my turn.
  • [Not Insulting after Insult #2]
    • Come on, dig into some deep aggression!
    • Break down my self esteem until it is a pile of metaphorical rubble!
    • Crush my mental health like a bug under your shoe!
    • Wait... do you crush bugs?
  • [Insult #3]
    • I have to say, you're not wrong about that one.
    • I've kinda been on probation for... a while.
    • One more misstep and I can say goodbye to Royal Guard-dom.
    • And all the nice perks that come with it...
    • My cozy uniforms, my Royal Guard discount at the movies, my nice insurance rates!
    • When they find out how much I hesitated here, I'm doomed!
    • I mean, they specifically said don't hesitate!
    • I GOT IT!

Confusion[edit | edit source]

  • [Alternating hitting and not hitting, not hit first turn]
    • Okay, what is going on?!
    • I mean, don't get me wrong, being attacked hurts!
    • And you had a good thing going there with the not hurting me thing, but...
    • I just can't follow your logic! Like, did I have a bad first impression on you?
    • Did I mess something up? Did I say something wrong here?
    • If I did, I'm sorry, but violence really isn't the answer to your problems, you know.
    • It's important to be able to talk through our issues with words.
    • Don't call in the cavalry for the small stuff.
  • [Alternating hitting and not hitting, hit first turn]
    • Okay, wait, I'm really confused!
    • First of all: Ow! Why? Why do you keep hitting me?!
    • I mean, yes, I am attacking you, but‒OW!
    • At least be consistent please!
    • Like, if you attack me a bunch and then it's your turn again...
    • Well, then I expect you to attack, and I can ready myself, you know?
    • But when you keep going back and forth like this...
    • You're giving me whiplash!
    • Plus, I don't know how to feel right now!
    • You attacked me, so I should have no qualms with apprehending you!
    • ...but then you stopped attacking me, so I thought:
    • "Hey, maybe you overreacted, Martlet!"
    • "Being a human isn't such a serious crime!"
    • "Maybe just let the kid off with a warning this time!"
    • "If you catch them being human again, that's when you arrest them!"
    • But then you hit me again, and now everything is all muddled!
    • And now all I know is OWWW it hurt.
  • [After either of the above two quotes]
    • Wait, wait, before you hit me again... or don't hit me again...
    • Actually, what are you trying to do here?
    • Nevermind that, answers to serious questions are above my pay grade.
    • The other guards said no interrogating or getting emotionally invested.
    • And I think I know what that means! Maybe!
    • Either way you seem like a good kid.
    • Well, some of the time at least.
    • And some of the time is good enough for me!
    • Oh, I have a great idea!
    • What if I help you get through Snowdin before you become an adorable popsicle?!
    • And, along the way, I can teach you to be a better citizen of the Underground!
    • It'll be fun! It happens in movies all the time!
    • A grumpy little human enters and then two or three montages later...
    • TA-DA!
    • Okay, I'll be right back! I need to go figure how to trigger a montage!

Genocide Route[edit | edit source]

Pre-Battle[edit | edit source]

  • Oh my goodness! Did you get left behind?
  • Might I ask your name?
  • Hmm... not on the resident list...
  • Umm... see, this is tough. I can't leave my post.
  • I'm supposed to wait here until this bad person comes.
  • The troublemaker who caused all this, ya know?
  • But I can't just leave you to find the others alone!
  • You're a child! I could never do that!
  • Okay, how 'bout we hurry and catch up with the others...
  • Then I come back and no one will ever know!
  • Ready?
  • [The battle starts]
  • Hey, what are you doing?
  • There's no need for fighting now!
  • We have to get going if we wanna catch up! Come on!

ACTing[edit | edit source]

  • [Not attacking, option 1]
    • I'm sorry to rush you like this but...
    • We really gotta get going!
  • [Not attacking, option 2]
    • We gotta stop wasting time!
    • It's not safe here!
  • [Not attacking, option 3]
    • This is serious! Let's get you out of here!
    • I don't know how long we have before... let's hurry okay?
  • ... [Not attacking after apologizing or attacking]
  • [Apologize #1]
    • Wha-what are you saying?
    • This isn't your fault. It-it can't be.
    • There's no way you...
    • You're just a child.
  • [Apologize #2]
    • So...
    • You're just apologizing?
    • Is it that simple?
    • You destroyed lives!
    • The monsters of Snowdin are terrified!
    • And you're just... apologizing?
    • Is, well, what else can you do, I suppose?
    • I mean, everyone is allowed to make mistakes but...
    • This is a little more than a mistake.
  • [Apologize #3, aborts Genocide Route]
    • You're really sorry, aren't you?
    • You're scared...
    • This was probably self-defense.
  • I understand. No need to keep apologizing. [Apologize four times, unused]

Attacking[edit | edit source]

  • [Attack after Apologizing]
    • Of course. I see how it is.
    • [Martlet begins attacking]
  • [Hit #1]
    • Ow! What are you doing?!
    • I understand if you're scared, but you have to trust me!
    • I'm with the Royal Guard! It's my job to make sure you're safe!
  • [Hit #2]
    • Ow ow ow! Look, I get it!
    • You're scared and don't know what to do, everyone is!
    • But you can't take that out on me!
    • If you go around hurting everyone all the time, well...
    • No one will ever help you!
  • [Hit #3]
    • Hey! Snap out of it!
    • Do you do this to everyone who tries to be nice to you?!
    • You... you do, don't you.
    • You're the one they're all running from, aren't you?
    • I-I don't know what to do... I've been so... naive.
    • You're just a kid.
  • [Hit #4]
    • Well, I'll be honest with you.
    • My handbook says nothing about this specific situation.
    • However...
    • I do know that something similar has happened before.
    • They put a stop to that so...
    • It's up to me to put a stop to this!
    • [Martlet begins attacking]
  • [Turn #5]
    • So you can take a hit.
    • I'm sorry to hear that.
    • That means I'll just have to hit harder!
  • [Turn #6]
    • You know, I'm almost glad you attacked me when you did.
    • If you had waited, I might have told you where the others went.
    • But now you'll never find them.
  • [Turn #7]
    • This whole thing is a tragedy.
    • And the saddest part is that there was no need for it.
    • They say monsters are made of love, hope, and compassion.
    • We would have agreed to help you in a heartbeat!
  • [Turn #8]
    • But you wouldn't understand that.
    • You're no monster.
    • I know what you are...
    • ...and it's something I fear is much worse.
    • It's that hat of yours that gives you away.
    • You're a human through and through.
  • [Turn #9]
    • I want you to know, I don't hate your kind.
    • There's gotta be nice humans out there.
    • Or at least somewhat reasonable humans.
    • I hoped that was you...
  • [Turn #10]
    • You're still trying?
    • Pretty... determined there, aren't you.
    • Luckily, so am I.
  • [Turn #11]
    • ...
  • [Turn #12]
    • Why... won't you back down?
  • [Turn #13]
    • *huff* *huff*
  • [Turn #14+]
    • ...

Lowering HP[edit | edit source]

  • Okay...
  • You win...
  • I'm done attacking, so please...
  • Lower your weapon.
  • ...
  • ...Thank you...
  • *huff* *huff*
  • My handbook says this thing...
  • "There's no shame in a tactical retreat."
  • I've never...been sure what that applied to, but...
  • I think...huff...that time is now.

Depleting HP[edit | edit source]

  • Oh! Ow! How are you so strong?!
  • Why did I let my guard down?...
  • I-I can't do this alone!
  • I need to alert the other Guards...
  • Please stay right here!
  • [Game crashes]

Game Over Quotes[edit | edit source]

  • I'm not sure she even meant to kill you there. Impressive...?
  • Come on, you lost to this rookie? Step it up, pal!
  • Talk about "freezing up" haha! ...Oh Right, you can't laugh because... Yeah.

Genocide Route[edit | edit source]

  • Don't let this guard's flashy front get to you. I know a weak-willed monster when I see one. [Snowdin Encounter]
  • Gee, these monsters sure are cruel! And who is their main influence? The King. [Snowdin Encounter]
  • She's tougher than she looks, huh? Luckily, so are you! [Snowdin Encounter]
